Today, August 1 is National Mustard Day. Now, why do we need to celebrate this particular condiment? Good question. Why not? BTW, it’s all kinds of mustard, and all colors of mustard. Fire up the grill and slather on the mustard.

Wait, there’s more–here’s the component that makes mustard happy: It’s National Sandwich Month. August, the whole month. Now you won’t need an excuse to eat a sandwich. If you’re going to Vegas, then stop at Stripburger as they plan a specialty sandwich for each day of the month.

Supporting the farmer is not lost in the party atmosphere this month. Starting Sunday August 2 and continuing for a week, it’s National Farmers Market Week. Here’s your chance to visit the farm markets and show your profound interest in the farmers who make it all happen. This might be a good week to convince your favorite restaurant to buy more from the local markets. This helps everyone.

Now for some real protein, how about National U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish Month. This is a great way to support the farmer and stay local. Check out the site for great-tastingĀ recipeshd_almond_crusted such as the almond-crusted catfish.

Plenty more to come. August 3 is often recognized as National Watermelon Day, but I think it deserves a month of accolades. Some of these “holidays” are really confusing, such as ice cream sandwich day or purple popsicle day. Seriously, either of those should have their own month-long calendar.

It’s a long, hot month. People get a little bored. Go find your favorite food and celebrate.
