grillwalkerSince we just talked the movable world of carts and trucks delivering our food, maybe we need a little footnote, or a food note. What happens in one place has the likelihood of imitation, right? Yes. The best success story means QUICK duplication. This time we’re talking about something even more portable than a cart or truck food express; maybe a cousin concept or something that will not fly in the US!?

In Berlin it didn’t suit an entrepreneur to just open a cart stand or buy a truck loaded with equipment to make his specialty bratwurst. He became the oven. That’s right, the employee walks the famous plazas with a propane tank attached to his back and cooks up the traditional dish as it is ordered. Crowds seem to respect the concept.

This type of cooking could be a little tricky; OK possibly very dangerous but judging by the popularity of the Grillwalker idea, I think it will be quickly imitated at least experimentally during the remaining warm months or as a year-round food express in warmer climes. Health department permitting may be the biggest US stumbling block. One to watch.

The idea of portability is the key to all these innovative new food success stories. That, of course, goes with the need for a good product. Who wants to line up for a soggy burger that was prepared hours earlier and now just zapped? Not a problem: You can find plenty of those.

This is a hot idea.
